L’Hostellerie du canard piqué was very popular with hunters from the region and Paris between the two wars.
It takes its name from hunting in the bay. Calling ducks, tied to a stake, on the water of the gabion attract passing birds In the hunters’ sights.
In 1980, The Conseil General du Calvados acquired the hotel to turn it into an informational and educational center for the Conservatoire du Littoral : La Maison de la nature run by the CPIE (Centre permanent d’initiatives pour l’environnement).
The environmental specificity of the bay makes it an important center for the observation, awareness and study of wetlands.
In 1954 it was the setting for the film “Sur le banc”.
