The gabion is an immersed shelter next to an artificial pond. It allows hunters to lie in wait all night to catch waterfowl and migratory birds at dawn.
Threatened by the rise in water levels, 3 gabions remain operational in the bay.
The art of gabion hunting lies in landing a wild duck, or a flock of wild ducks (or geese) near the installation. To achieve this, the hunter uses decoys: ducks selected for their songs are tied in a particular arrangement (depending on wind strength and direction, the moon, the season and the specific qualities of each decoy). This special arrangement must enable the wild duck to be placed exactly where it is wanted. The duck most often used is the mallard.
