Stage 1 - La mairie et l'écoleWith a population of 293, Sallenelles combines the charm of the countryside with the ecological richness of a wetland. Our village has always managed to adapt to its environmental changes : Coastal erosion, modification of the Orne River route, digging of the channel from Caen to the sea.
Originally, Sallenelles was known for its salt production, then became an important naval dockyard center. Since those economics poles have disappeared, hunting and fishing activities took over allowing thus the village to stay attractive. Nowadays, thanks to its specific environmental surroundings, the village is now recognized as an important center for the observation, awareness and study of wetlands.
Sallenelles belongs to the federation of municipalities named as « Normandie Cabourg Pays d’Auge » (NCPA).
